December 11, 1915 - June 5, 2016

Delivered by her father, Viola Sadie Carr Hill arrived on Dec. 11, 1915, at the homestead home four miles west of Winnett to her parents, Thomas and Addie Carr. After 100 years of living well, on June 5, 2016, she peacefully went to her eternal home. All of her education was in the Winnett school system, graduating from high school in 1934. Vi was united in marriage to Floyd Hill on April 27, 1936. Floyd and Vi were engaged in ranching in the Winnett area all of their married life, 69 years. Both of them were active community members and raised five children who also graduated from Winnett High School. They deeply cared about further education for their children and all five of them received college degrees.

Viola chaired the Red Cross Blood Drive for years in Winnett. Also through the Red Cross she helped with swimming lessons and taught First Aid classes. She was sought out by those in need of medical attention. Vi was a member of Rebekahs, Royal Neighbors of America and Eastern Star, where she proudly held the office of Martha for many years. She became a member of the LDS church in 1975.

Viola was a lady of many talents and interests. She worked inside and outside and was a team player alongside her husband, Floyd, in building a successful ranching operation. She was an excellent cook, loved gardening and yardwork, had many plants inside, could crochet, knit and sew garments for her girls. She raised bum lambs, chickens, chinchillas, rabbits, and loved the cats and dogs that were her pets. As a mother, she was a disciplinarian, educator, counselor and a fierce protector of her family.

Vi and Floyd traveled the world with trips to New Zealand, Australia, Africa, Finland, Estonia, Germany, and most all of the states, including Hawaii and Alaska. They traveled the U.S. in their motorhome and, with Floyd driving and Vi doing the navigating, they never had any problems. Vi loved rocks and she collected them from all over the world. They proudly participated in the Cattle Drive of 1989 along with their son, Stan and his daughter, Sarah.

Viola is survived by her daughters, Joan (Brendan) Murphy of Winnett, Virginia (Pearl) Mart of Meridian, Idaho, Sharon (Cal) Wilson of Roseville, Minn.; sons, Stan Hill (Becky Lenhart) of Billings, Bruce Hill of Houston; grandchildren, Brad and Brent Murphy, Reba and Loren Mart, Jennifer and Matt Wilson, Sarah Hill Hall and Jon Hill, Josh, Jarom, Jacob, Joel Hill; and 27 great-grandchildren.

Viola was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd; her parents; sisters, Opal and Frances; brothers, Ray, Joe and Glenn; her daughter-in-law, Kathy Hill; her great-grandson, Carson Jacob Hill.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at St. John's Vista for the outstanding, loving care given to Vi over these past two years.

Memorials may be sent to the Petroleum County Endowment Fund, Box 206, Winnett, MT 59087 or to a charity of your choice.

Services, under the direction of Michelotti-Sawyers Mortuary, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 11, at the LDS Church, 1300 Fifth St. W. in Roundup. A luncheon will be served at the church immediately following the service. Burial will be in the Lewistown City Cemetery.
