Virginia Ann Cox, 90, of Billings, peacefully passed away on January 30. Her time had come to join her Creator and family.

Virginia was born in Emmons County, North Dakota on March 15, 1931, to Frank and Mary Buechler. She was one of 10 children. Her family worked on farms in North Dakota and relocated to Fromberg, Montana.

She met the love of her life at his brother’s wedding. Richard “Dick” Cox was immediately taken in by Virginia’s charm and started a courtship that won her over. They were married on November 10, 1953. Virginia and Dick had two sons, Guy and Rick.

She was very good with numbers and worked at a bank in Billings before she became a mother. After Guy was born, she decided to become a full-time stay-at-home mom. Cookies coming out of the oven at just the right moment as Guy and Rick got home from school was one of her specialties. Throughout her life, she would find herself working with numbers as a bank teller or bookkeeper, or accounts payable clerk.

Virginia kept active. She loved to embroider, crochet, read and listen to Daniel O’Donnell, her favorite singer. Music was a big part of her life. She was a member of the Glee Club in high school and played the accordion. During holidays, the house was always decorated with fun things, some of which she made. Her family enjoyed her cooking. She had a great time finding a new recipe, then trying it out on the family. Her cookbook was full of recipe cards from family and friend or cut out magazine recipes. She loved to eat Mexican food and enjoyed it spicy. Family bar-b-ques would be on the menu several days of the week in the summer. Guy would get the grill ready, and everyone would enjoy a meal on the patio. Picnicking in the mountains was always on her list of things to do.

One of the joys of being part of her family was hearing from so many people how Virginia was such a wonderful person. “She is such a sweetheart.” has been said to us many times. Virginia touched so many lives, making those she touched feel good, at least for the time they were with her.

Virginia was predeceased by her parents, Frank and Mary; her husband, Dick; her nine brothers and sisters; daughter-in law-Lorrie; and granddaughter-in-law Steffany. She is survived by her children, Guy (Deborah) and Rick; grandchildren, Jeff, Ian (Erin), Alissa (David), Matthew, Jamie Carlos) and Gary; as well as several great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.

The family requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America (https://alzfdn.org/support-us/donate) in lieu of flowers.
