Walter G. Reichenberg Profile Photo

With close family and friends by his side, Walter quietly left our presence to be with his Lord and Savior. We were all blessed by the way he touched each of our lives. Walt was a very kind, caring, and benevolent person. He enjoyed life and was an active sports enthusiast as both a participant and a fan. He enjoyed fishing, boating, bowling, golf and in his younger years playing football, basketball and track.

He was born to Gustav and Lydia Reichenberg in Hazen, North Dakota, the fourth of nine children. After graduating from Hazen High School, his family moved to Billings where he has since resided. Walt served in the United States Navy during World War II and was honorably discharged in 1946.

Walter married Ruth Scheidt on December 21, 1946 and they had three children. He worked as a project engineer for the Montana State Highway Department for many years. After retiring, he traveled with Ruth as snowbirds to Yuma, AZ until her death in 1994. He shared his time with his family, which included grandchildren, great grandchildren and his friend and companion Sis. Walter moved to St. John’s Lutheran Ministries in 2006.

His wife Ruth and his youngest daughter Helen Powers preceded Walt in death. He is survived by his son Richard, his daughter Lenice (Jon) Byrd and their children Lisa, Carissa, and Ehren Byrd and his great grandchildren Johnathon, Dylan, and Katelynn. Walt’s sister Donna (Jim) Polen and family, Elmer (Pat) Reichenberg and family, his special friend Elizabeth (Sis) Scheafer and her family also survive him.

Walt, we will truly miss your enthusiasm for life, kind-heartedness, sense of humor and caring for all the lives you have touched!

Funeral services will be held 10am Wednesday at American Lutheran Church. Interment with military honors will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens. The casket will be open at church prior to services.
