William R. Hergett

William R. "Bill" Hergett passed away on Sept. 13, 2018. He was born in Billings on Nov. 8, 1930, to John and Elizabeth (Stieber) Hergett.

Bill attended high school in Belfry, Montana, and began farming with his family in the area. On June 1, 1955, he married Irene Nancy Donohoe and continued farming south of Belfry. Bill was an active member of the community, serving many years as a board member for the school district and his church. Bill and Irene retired and moved to Billings in 1994, where he enjoyed working part time at the Yegen Golf Club. Throughout his life, Bill enjoyed fishing and hunting. He especially enjoyed visiting and playing cards with neighbors, friends and family. We will always remember his warm smile and special sense of humor.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Elizabeth Hergett. He is survived by his wife, Irene; sons Ron (Karen) and Randy (Candy); daughters Linda (Ken) Stahley and Sue (Brian) Hamilton; seven grandchildren, Brian (Kristen), Matt (Brianna), Katie, Kyle, Justin, Jacob and Erin; two great-grandchildren, Baylee and Hayes; brothers Ed and Ernie; and sister Marian Reid.

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 19, at Mount Olive Lutheran Church, 2336 St. Johns Ave. in Billings.

The family would like to thank the entire staff at RiverStone Hospice and Sweetwater Retirement Community for their compassion and care. Memorial contributions may be given to RiverStone Health Foundation or Mount Olive Lutheran Church.
