Durand M. Ward, 73, of Billings, passed away on April 30, 2013, at St. Vincent Healthcare, following a yearlong fight with cancer.
Durand was born on May 20, 1939, in Fordville, N.D., the son of Ralph and Adeline (Pederson) Ward. He was raised in Fordville and graduated from high school there in 1957. He went on to attend the University of North Dakota, graduating with a bachelor of science in business administration in 1961. He was a member of the Delta Tau Delta Fraternity.
On Sept. 10, 1960, Durand married Janice Ridgway, also of Fordville. He worked for two other companies before taking a job with Red Wing Shoe Company in 1968 as a territory sales rep that covered parts of a five-state area. He and his family moved to Billings in 1970, and he continued working for Red Wing Shoes until he retired in 1999.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers Dennis and Terry. Durand is survived by his wife, Janice of Billings; children Marla Rae Ward of Ballantine, Jeff D. Ward of Phoenix and Jason Ward of Billings; brother Lawrence “Buzz” Ward of Lankin, N.D.; sister-in-law Ruthe Nilson of Hoople, N.D.; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and special family friends, Nancy Johnson, Nola Vollmer, Grant Sinclair, all of Billings, and Melanie Hinch of Phoenix.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 6, at Michelotti-Sawyers Mortuary.
