Michelotti-Sawyers Mortuary was started in 1956 by Robert Michelotti and John Sawyers. Their foresight led to the development of a funeral home dedicated to providing the best quality service to families at their greatest time of need. In 1975, Michelotti-Sawyers acquired the Settergren-Carey Funeral Home, which was the oldest funeral home in the area dating back to 1906.
In 1976, John Michelotti continued the legacy started by his father and John Sawyers. Shortly thereafter, he took over as the second generation owner and funeral director. In 1998, John served as President of Selected Independent Funeral Homes. He played a vital role in opening the door for funeral directors of all races and nationalities. Later that year, he opened Yellowstone Valley Memorial Park. A statue and kidney-shaped pond were built to commemorate his father, who passed away from kidney disease shortly after opening.
In 2009, Barry Brekhus, who worked alongside Robert & John Michelotti for almost 30 years, took over as General Manager of the funeral home and YVMP. Barry carried on the same dedication, mentorship of future funeral directors, and attention to detail as his predecessors. He was a critical component to the legacy of Michelotti-Sawyers over the years.
As of 2019, Seve Michelotti has taken over as the third generation owner. Seve continues the commitment set forth by his grandfather, father, and Barry to maintain the highest standards in character, trustworthiness, family care, and facilities.
Serving hundreds of families each year, the team has stayed true to the core value of funeral directing over almost 70 years: trust when it is needed most.
